Humanitas Approved Academic Education Provider by NAADAC
Part of New Launch to Offer Health Professionals, Instructors and Counselors with Industry Credentials
(Silver Spring, MD ---April 9, 2009) Today Humanitas, Inc., a woman-owned small business, announced that the National Association for Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselors (NAADAC) awarded it as an NAADAC Academic Education Provider. Humanitas met the stringent criteria to offer continuing education credit hours to participants who attend and complete Humanitas-sponsored educational conferences, webinars, and programs.
Humanitas offers a variety of educational programs, technical assistance and products to support health professionals, instructors and counselors. Health and wellness professionals attending the 2009 Job Corps National Health and Wellness Conference during April 15-19 will be the first recipients to receive 10 credits of continuing education credits from Humanitas.
Job Corps is the nation’s largest residential education, training and placement program and serves at-risk youth between the ages of 16 and 24. Humanitas manages the program’s health and wellness support contract for the U.S. Department of Labor.
“I have been involved in public health for many years and this new credential is critically important as we continue to reach out to new clients and practitioners from different settings including schools, federal agencies, public treatment centers, hospitals, private practice and community-based behavioral health agencies,” said Lura Myers, Humanitas president. “Our two decades of serving at-risk youth has allowed us to develop targeted educational programs that can benefit those serving the growing numbers of young men and women in need of alcohol, substance abuse and other addiction prevention and treatment.”
National statistics show that addiction is the number one public health issue in the United States today. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), an estimated 2.2 million people aged 12 or older sought treatment for an alcohol or illicit drug problem in 2003.
Attaining continuing education credit hours is the result of a yearlong strategy at Humanitas to leverage the firm’s expertise in education, public health and training. The success of this expansion is strict oversight, quality control and evaluation. Julie Luht, director of the education and training programs will monitor programs and cites the new NAADAC credential as important. “NAADAC supports continued research and promotes high standards. We are pleased that we have a partner to continue Humanitas’ educational offerings and are proud to be an Approved Academic Education Provider.”
