Opportunity Overview

The intern teams will be responsible for working to develop interactive web-based applications and venues for web-based information dissemination.  The project teams may work through work thru a part of, or a full life cycle, of product development and implementation:

•             Competitively bid to participate in larger projects

•             For a specific project:

o             Assess requirements

o             Develop proposal for online course modifications

o             Present written proposal to Humanitas client

o             Work with Humanitas client to modify proposal as needed to obtain approval

o             Develop and test online course

o             Present modified course and test results to Humanitas client for approval

o             Prepare online course technical documentation

 Project: Enhance (3) Online Courses

Project Overview

The intern teams will be responsible for enhancing online courses with interactive simulation/game programming.  The project teams will work thru the full life cycle of product development and implementation:

·         Assess requirements

·         Develop proposal for online course modifications

·         Present written proposal to Humanitas client

·         Work with Humanitas client to modify proposal as needed to obtain approval

·         Develop and test online course

·         Present modified course and test results to Humanitas client for approval

·         Prepare online course technical documentation

Position Descriptions

For each online course the project team may be comprised of:

·         Project manager intern

·         (3) GSP interns-draft position descriptions

·         Humanitas client

The project manager intern will work in the following capacities:

·         Work with GSP interns to develop concept for online course modifications prepare proposal, modify proposal as needed, develop project schedule, develop testing protocol, conduct and document testing, create technical documentation.

·         Be responsible for client communications, scheduling meetings and conference calls, and preparing written deliverables.

GSP interns will work with the project manager intern as mentioned above and be responsible for technical work including: 

·         Selecting platform/programming language

·         Determining appropriate modifications for course content

·         Complete programming and testing

·         Draft technical documentation

On addition, GSP interns will provide assistance with project deliverables as needed.

Designated Humanitas staff will take a client role in the project to:

·         Prepare initial project requirement

·         Submit intern opportunity to DeVry and participate in selection process

·         Review and approve proposal

·         Review and approve deliverables in draft and final form

·         Participate in project debrief

Project: Establish DeVry Internship Program Blog. 

Project Overview: DeVry is piloting a non-paid internship program. Program objectives include providing work-based learning experience for college credit for students in technology and management. This experience provides students with an opportunity to apply knowledge, skills and abilities in professional work environments and begin networking to develop professional relationships that may lead to employment. One aspect of marketing the internship program is outreach to students and potential employers. A blog format for disseminating information to interested audiences also provides an opportunity to expand Internet. The blog can include posts that link to other DeVry Internet venues, including the school’s website and social media accounts such as Facebook.  Blog posts may include information about intern opportunities, information for potential employers, and success stories. Another approach for creating coverage would be to follow (1) other education blogs, {such as 2 yr schools who would potentially send students to DeVry} and, (2) follow technology blogs in the professional areas DeVry has a concentration of degree studies. Following tech blogs would be of interest to students and also be potential for employer recruitment for the intern program.

Project Requirements

Setting up the blog:

·         Establish objectives for intern program blog

·         Create written description of the blog, propose a URL and work with DeVry to obtain logo/art images.

·         Establish specific criteria for blog posting, type of information and minimum frequency of posting – with regard to different blog audiences [students, employers, potential students, partner schools]

·         Develop linkages with other DeVry Internet venues

·         Search two top blogger applications, Word Press and Google’s blogger for blogs to follow long term, based on program objectives.

·         Establish blog staffing and create format for intern project opportunities to develop and maintain the blog [team positions that research, write, review, evaluate progress/success of blog tool]

·         Establish approach to evaluate the progress/success of blog tool {short-term, blog traffic, long-term, number of students competing for and participating in intern program and numbers of employers participating]
